Frank R. Stockton (1834-1902) foi um escritor e jornalista americano, mais conhecido por suas histórias curtas de fantasia e humor. Nascido na Filadélfia, Pensilvânia, ele inicialmente trabalhou como gravador de madeira antes de se dedicar à escrita em tempo integral. Sua obra mais famosa é o conto "A Dama ou o Tigre?", publicado em 1884, que apresenta um final ambíguo e instigante.
